One Last Wish: Sixteen And Dying

Well, I promised you that I was going to do a review on this book. Here it is. Finally a One Last Wish book review. I apologize for not posting in a couple of weeks as a couple of things happened.

1. My best friend's Mom passed away and her funeral was the other day, which was hard and sad, but hey, she lived a long life and I'm sure she's at peace (She lived to be 72 years old.)

2. My cousin had a baby boy the other day , who is 5 ounces, 7 pounds, and really cute. That means I'm an auntie (or cousin or whatever.) Which is exciting , because me and my cousin is very close and are practically like twin sisters in a way.

So yeah, I again apologize for not posting lately and believe me, I'm going to still do blog reports and stuff. Just be patient with me please.

Ok on with the cover:
Damn, Anne looks good on this cover although if you ask me, she looks much older than 16. Morgan looks kinda creepy, like as if he can't wait to get under her skin and etc. Who would blame him? I mean come on cover artist. Anne looks way too older for this cover. I like the cover though.

Now this is the one the library has. Now at least Anne looks more her age, though that T shirt and facial expression makes her look more 15 ish than 16. And I love the way Morgan is shaped here on the cover. Makes him look less creepy and more withdrawn and morose. The older cover was nice, but I think this was much better when it comes to describing looks here, cause the original cover Anne looked much older and more of a religious model, and Morgan looked creepy on the original cover.

Plot: Anne Wingate is 16 years old with only one thing on her mind : To live a normal life again. Turns out Anne bears a terrible secret : She has AIDS.  Nobody knows how long Anne has to live, but Anne pretty much figures that she hasn't gotten long to live. So one day while Anne is taking some tests in the hospital for her illness, she receives a letter from a mysterious benefactor called The One Last Wish and in it is a 100,000 check.

Anne is shocked and amazed at receiving such money, that she decides to keep it to herself until her doctor delivers her the news that they want her to take some drugs including one called AZT, to help maintain her life with AIDS. But Anne decides to hold off on taking the drugs, and instead asks her dad if they could stay at a ranch in Colorado for  a couple of weeks. The dad at first becomes persistent, but eventually lets her go.

While there at the ranch, she meets a boy named Morgan, who at first becomes moody and withdrawn, and doesn't like Anne because there was a girl that Morgan liked a couple of years ago but she broke his heart and was a rich, snobby bitch. So Morgan tries to stay away from Anne, but immediately becomes drawn to her after realizing that she's not like other girls, and after seeing how smart Anne is and how tough too.

So Morgan and Anne start spending some time together and get to know each other and etc, until when Morgan has a accident while entering his horse in a horse tournament. Luckily though, Morgan is still alive. But Morgan has a terrible secret too: He may be carrying Huntington's Disease just like his father and the famed singer Woody Guthrie. Apparently, the daddy was a good cowboy before being struck with Huntington's Disease and pretty much acting like a paranoia. So the daddy's in a mental institution and the mom soon bailed out, leaving Morgan in care with the daddy's sister named Maggie and her husband named Dan. The auntie thinks she have it too, but Morgan doesn't want to face that fear.

So Anne and Morgan decide to tell each other their secrets while also being there for their friends , Marti and Skip, who are in love with each other and pretty much go out as a couple. But then Anne cuts herself and ends up going to the hospital, where the doctors tell her that her illness is taking it's full course. So now Anne heads back home without telling Morgan goodbye, because Morgan shot an animal while trying to keep it out of pain, and Anne and Morgan's relationship pretty much cools.

But then Morgan begans missing Anne, especially after his best friend leaves to go visit Marti for a couple of weeks. So Morgan decides to leave Colorado and go to New York to visit Anne, where he finally learns that Anne is dying, and that she has a couple of weeks left to live. So Morgan and Anne spend the holidays together (Christmas), and Anne decides to give Morgan some Christmas presents, and in turn recieves a beautiful Cheyenne wedding dress from Morgan since he knows how pure and sainty Anne acts. Later Anne asks Morgan to take a test to see if Morgan really has Huntington's disease, but Morgan refuses, saying that he's happy with the way that he is. Then he reads Anne her favorite poem by Emily Dickinson titled "Because I Could Not Stop For Death, Death Stopped For Me" and Anne soon dies after Morgan finishes reading the poem.

So the book ends with Morgan and Anne's father finally getting along and Morgan recieving a check from Anne saying to take a test to see if he has Huntington's. The father thinks it's a test to go into college, and encourages Morgan to go into college, for he has a bright future looking ahead of him. After that, Morgan leaves, wishing he could make love to Anne while also wishing he was more nicer to her too. The End!

1. Man! I try not to like this book, but I must confess, this book was really good. Well of course it would be good if I wanted to choose this as my first One Last Wish book report.
2. That Morgan really seems interesting. Sucks that Morgan doesn't have a book of his own. I would love to know more about Morgan's life and what his summer with that Stacey girl been like as well as his family life too.
3. Luckily, Morgan does reappear in the last book of the One Last Wish series called Reach For Tomorrow where he works as a dude rancher and he falls in love with Megan from Let Him Live.
4. Morgan and D.J. from She Died Too Young would get along real well. Both can't stand tourists, both are overprotective of their loved ones, and both work on dude ranches. Only D.J. comes from a rich background.
5. So apparently they didn't screen blood testings until January 1985. Funny. I thought they didn't screen that until 1991?
6. There's a Magic Johnson reference when they mention in the first chapter how a famous basketball player got AIDS.
7. there's also a Ryan White reference when Anne was afraid of being shunned at school for recieving AIDS through a blood transfusion and being kicked out and expelled from her school by the administrators.
8. If you think Lurlene has a problem with African Americans, then you certainly havent read the books more clearly. Looks like Lurlene has a problem with Mexicans too as she always make her Mexican or Latino characters come from gangs or street life or even worse do drugs. Yeah, only not all Mexicans are like that Lurlene. Same with African Americans.
9. I seriously want that dress that Anne is buried in. It sounds like something that Pocahauntas would wear and it sounds cute with the beads and etc.
10. Lurlene Pattern: Working class widowed or single men (but most likely Widowed men), are considered a no no and will act agressive and overprotective. Anne's father is like that since his wife died, and Ryan's dad is also like that in Prey, as well as Brandon's dad in the book, For Better, For Worse, Forever.
11. I felt sorry for Anne, seeing that she was only 16 when she died and never really got to live her life the way she wanted. I should add that Anne was my favorite in this book and one who I was most like. And yes I hate violence also and hates seeing an animal get killed (although I am not a vegeterian.)
12. This plot is so like the book called Too Young To Die, where Melissa experiences the same thing as Anne, only Melissa has leukemia. And the guy who Melissa fell in love with was a total creeper. Same with Melissa's brother only he acted more like Morgan in this book.

like I said I love the book, although I prefer the other novels too. Be sure to look for more blog posts soon. That I promise.

Prey by Lurlene Mcdaniel

Yes I take requests. And sorry if I haven't  been posting in a while. Things have been kind of hectic lately and I feel as if I've been going in a whirlwind. But anyways I'm back and alive as ever.

This post is dedicated to londonrasb, who wanted me to do a review based on this book and who's a huge Lurlene Mcdaniel fan. Londonrasb, it's your lucky day because here's the review you requested. (if you want to make any more requests just let me know and i'll see what I can do.)

ok on with the cover:
Pretty awesome cover huh? It shows a shadowy like form of a woman( probably Lori Settles), trying to take off her heels and probably getting ready to have sex with the intended victim like Ryan. It also shows the picture of an apple and a couple of stacks of books and a desk. Pretty fitting if you ask me.

Ryan: Is just an average 15 year old high school student with only one thing in his mind: To get a car for his 16th birthday. Its so that he can have freedom to cruise around and not depend on his friends too much and taking the bus to go to places. He also has a father who's a total workaholic and a mom who killed herself years ago and who Ryan barely remembers. Well things change once hot teacher Ms. Lori Settles soon moves in one day and practically has all the boys lusting after her and wanting to get inside her skirt, most especially the girls coach Mr. Mathers, who wants to date Lori and etc.

Things become even more crazy when Ryan soon begins having an affair with Lori and soon starts having sex with her, much to Lori's liking. But this starts changing Ryan's life for the worse when he soon starts drifting away from his friends, most especially his good friend Honey, who is in love with him, and also getting into beefs with his dad, who constantly worries about Ryan and wants to keep in contact with him. But all Ryan can think about is Lori Settles and he wants to make Lori happy and spend time together with Lori, to the point when Honey soon finds out about Lori's and Ryan's relationship and turns them in, especially after she discovers some personal items in his room and etc.

So now Lori is in jail and Lori and Ryan are ordered to stay away from each other and go to therapy and etc. But Ryan is still secretly seeing Lori, only now he is 18 years old and with a car now. And he decided to go into community college too and also becoming popular with the boys and girls and earning a reputation while also labeled as the victim of Lori's "targets" and etc.

Lori: Is new to Georgia and is the total talk around the school, especially with the men. Lori is in love with Ryan and wants to have sex with him while also keeping a low profile and pretending to be a school teacher and etc. She totally hates grown men, mainly due to her father raping her as a child and sexually abusing her while the mother stands there and does nothing, so she hates the mom too. Lori is famous for wearing stilettos to class and being the boys sex goddess. All this change when Lori is ordered to change her outfit due to giving the students and parents the wrong message. But Lori doesn't mind as long as she can still be with Ryan.

Things turn for the worse when Lori is arrested for having sex with Ryan, who was 15 at the time and a minor and Lori ends up cutting herself. Turns out that Lori is bi polar and she's been abused by her dad for years while the mother does nothing which explains why Lori's been craving for younger men and hating boys. Lori ends up spending 6 months in jail and months of probation while also ordered to stay away from Ryan and being fired from school and now labeled as a sex offender and a predator. But Lori and Ryan are still seeing each other and it shows Lori secretly going out with Ryan while also covering up her identity.

Honey: Is Ryan's best friend who's known Ryan for years, since 2nd grade. Honey has a huge crush on Ryan, but Ryan only thinks of her as a friend. Honey hates Lori Settles, their new high school social studies teacher, because she gains Ryan's attention and makes all the boys practically lust over her. But things change when Honey thinks that Ryan is having an affair with someone else. It later turns out to be true when Honey finds a necklace soon notices a necklace around Lori's neck, which turns out to be Ryan's necklace, which makes Honey vomit and immediately hating Ryan and Lori.

So Honey snoops around and prints out emails to the principal Ms. Dexter, and soon has Lori arrested and Ryan in trouble now. And now Ryan totally hates her ass and doesn't want to be friends with her anymore. It ends with Honey moving away to another neighborhood and enrolling in an all girls private school. And Ryan secretly missing her but at the same time hating her ass and loving Lori more.

The End!

1. O My Gosh! Where to Begin.. Ok All I can say is man does this book really have you thinking what goes on in our school systems and that it does happen in real life. This book is definitely a favorite of mines. I guess because stuff like this does happen and it's nice to see Lurlene writing something that doesn't deal with death and sadness all the time.
2. Apparently Ryan's lost his virginity since he was 7 years old and that Lori wasn't the first girl that he had sex with. In fact, he had sex with a lot of girls before her. But he loves Lori instead. Yeah what a total creep.
3. I kinda feel sorry for Lori even if she was a sex offender and stuff. I mean who doesn't want to have sex and date with someone younger than their age. Not to mention the girl was sexually abused and stuff. Can't help but feel sorry for the chick.
4. Seriously, who would get in trouble for wearing stilettos to class. There is nothing wrong with that. It's not like she was dressing up as a hooker.
5. That Ms. Drexter is a bitch and a total cow. I mean threatening someone to change their appearance and look like an old lady. What a bitch indeed.
6. Pattern here: If the mom is dead and used suicide as a way to feed off her depression, The Dad ends up becoming the workaholic and act like total douchebags. This happens in this book when Ryan's dad is a total workaholic and has a mom who was totally depressed and ended up killing herself. It happens in the book For Better For Worse Forever too.
7. Another Lurlene Pattern : Working class mothers are total bitches. Honey's mom works and has a child who is autistic. Definite sign of a working class mom.
8. I would feel sorry for Honey, considering that the guy she loves is a total pig and is screwing his teacher like a sex object. But yet Honey should of just minded her own business so that way Ryan and Lori would eventually get caught in their own way and maybe Ryan wouldn't end up hating her ass and etc. So she's to blame also.
9. I think Lori is based off of Debra Lafave with the way she's described here. Only Debra was a blonde. And that Lori's and Ryan's relationship is based off of Mary Kay Letournau's relationship with her student Stu, who is now married to her and etc.
10. Did I mention like Debra, Lori didn't have to stay in prison for a long time, due to everyone thinking that she's beautiful and etc. But she has to stay away from public schools and is now labeled as a sex offender and etc.
11. Nowadays people would call Lori as a cougar and would still eventually hate her ass.
12. Mariah Carey and Madonna should take notes on this and learn from Lori and Ryan.

sorry for the long post, but this book was so raw I had no choice but to do it. Not to mention it's now a favorite of mines.

Last Dance

Sorry if  I   haven't been blogging in a while. I just gotten a job, not to mention trying to keep up with my other blog. And to top it off I have a cold, and I'm trying to rest up for a while. But anyways I thought I'd put up one blog while I'm resting and recovering. Just so that you guys will be entertained.

On the Cover:
Like it? Its a cover of ballet slippers with a pink rose and the title of the book all on the cover. And if you check the back of the cover, you would see a young ballerina rubbing her legs , pretty much replying if those dance routines are hurting her legs, or that she has diabetes. Either way, she's rubbing her legs. Nice. Anyways on with the book.

Plot: Rachel Derring is a young 13 year old who loves ballet and hates her sister Chris, and a girl named Melanie in her ballet class. She has a teacher named Madame Pershaff who totally works her ass off and wants Rachel to become a serious and dedicated ballet star. And Chris and Rachel's mom is a total cow who likes to work her daughters off and make them take ballet classes and other activities. A real pushover and a total Mrs. Prezzioso with some mixture of Rosie Wilder's mom and Mrs. Perkins.

Well one day, Rachel becomes very tired and thirsty and decides to skip doctor's appointment just to go to ballet class. Next thing you know, she passes out and   lands in the hospital. The doctors later diagnose her as a Type 1 diabetic. She has to take shots everyday and check her insulin and eat dietary foods. And she can't take ballet for awhile until she takes control of her illness.

So Rachel spends her time crying her ass off and acting like a little bitch, until she meets a boy named Shawn Mclauglin, who is cute and also a diabetic. Shawn's been a diabetic since he was 4 years old and pretty much acts as if its nothing. Shawn pretty much helps her out through this ordeal and Rachel later learns to take control of her illness and live a better life now that she's a diabetic.

Then Rachel learns that her doctor, Dr. Malar , is a diabetic also and soon looks up to him like a father figure. Rachel also learns that the role of the Dying Swan has been giving to her rival Melanie, due to Rachel being sick and all. So Rachel quits, and everyone chews her ass off about it. Rachel later joins the diabetic group and soon dates Shawn Mclauglin.

They later go to the dance and learn that Brandon, a boy who Rachel was lusting for, is a jerk, when he dumps Melanie to go hang out with Rachel. But Rachel rejects him after learning what he's really like. Later on Rachel goes back to ballet class, now seeing how pathetic and desperate Melanie is, and now that she's in control of her life. So Rachel later goes to audition tryouts in New York with her teacher and later learns that she's been accepted to enroll at the choice of her dreamsfor 6 weeks and on a scholarship. Rachel wants to go, but her mom is being a total bitch about it and refuses to let her go.

So Rachel and her parents go to Dr. Malar to talk about this, and Dr. Malar encourages them to let Rachel go, which they do, but then they go to the Mclaughlins to see about it, and they encourage them to let Rachel go after sharing some heart to heart with Mrs. Mclauglin about what it was like letting their son go off and stuff. So the book ends with Rachel going to the love of her dreams, Ballet School of Performing Arts, and feeling confident of herself and going out with Shawn. The End.

Thoughts on This Book:
1. I really do not like this book. First of all, Rachel was whiny and annoying, but quite realistic but still annoying. Second of all, her parents are total pushover typos. And man, is her sister a little bitch and that Madame Pershaff is a real overachiever drag. Yep, definitely despise this book.
2. You'd think the girl would at least have the common sense to go to the bathroom but no, she just sits there and go on with practice. Yeah, that's one way of giving yourself kidney failure Rachel, and no amount of doctors can help you with that one.
3. You would also think the girl would give up on ballet practices after nearly killing herself with routines and sipping out doctor's appointments. Not a very smart move indeed Rachel. That's actually pretty stupid.
4. If I were Rachel, I would of at least value my health over my career in ballet anyways. That way I could still be alive and still recovering from certain illnesses like diabetes.
5.Um sweetie, If a guy hasn't been paying attention to you and talks shit about you in front of your rival then he's so not worth the wait. In fact, I'd pick Shawn over Brandon anyday. He seems really hot for a diabetic guy.
6. I thought that Jenny would have the brains to at least drop Ben after seeing him treat Rachel like shit but no, she's still going out with him. I wonder why Rachel is still friends with her.
7. If your daughter doesn't want to go to the damn play, Don't MAKE HER GO! Gheesh what is up with parents in these books.
8. And also, I agree with Mrs. Mclauglin. If your child wants to go off somewhere and you don't feel comfortable sending her/him off by themselves, just go with them. Not only because then you'll know that your child  is safe, but also, it can take your mind off of things for a couple of days. Not to mention you can do some traveling for yourself.
9. Ok well the only ones I like in this  book is Shawn, Jenny(despite being a total ditz), Mr. Deering(he wasn't that much of a pushover like his wife), Dr. Malar, and The Mclauglins.

Overall , really boring book and totally stupid book too. I hate this book. Lurlene you can do much better than this.

How Do I Love Thee: Three Stories

I decided to do a blog post based on this book because I honesty thought it was really good. Not only that but the story focuses on star crossed lovers who is brought together by tragedy and illness. Not to mention it focuses on one poem and that's the famous poem that's written by Elizabeth Barrett  Browning. Here Goes The Poem. Pay Attention to it as it will become very important later on:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with a passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

Pretty cool huh? It becomes a very important highlight later on in the books.
Cover Art:
Isn't the cover art really beautiful. Ok it shows a picture of two lovers with their arms around each other while at the beach, looking like they're getting ready to kiss even though we don't know who they are since they're in the shadows and etc. Not to mention the picture is surrounded by white rose petals and pink and blue color textbooks. Pretty sweet cover.

Ok On with the story. The Story is going to be set up differently since its in a 3 part story line. Here Goes

Night Vision: Its about a boy named Brett who is new to Massachussetts and just moved from Kentucky to try to find a better life, since he survived cancer and is living with his mom, who is a total bitch and likes to snap at him, but is at least supportive of him and lets him live an independent life despite having cancer. Anyways Brent is new and one day he discovers a young girl by the name of Shayla, who is pretty much like an outsider and only comes out at night. Brent wants to know why she only comes out at night, but is too busy trying to hold his life down and going to treatments and etc. So one day he decides to Meet Shayla and ask her information about her life. She later tells him the truth and tells him that she has a disorder called Xeroderma Pigmentosum , Which causes their DNA to not repair and making them very allergic to the sunlight. So the doctors call them "Children Of The Moon" and pretty much has the parents to shield everything away from the sun and making it lightproof. Otherwise they could get skin cancer and die. Anyways, Brett falls in love with her and soon tells her the news himself : He Also Has Cancer. Apparently Brett's been diagnosed with cancer since he was 12, and had to go through treatments and all. Not to mention his dad was a huge asshole who left him when he was 12 too. The mom stuck by him and supported him through everything but still acts like a bitch most of the time. Anyways, the two would later date and meet Brett's new friends Doug, Sandy and the others. Sandy has a crush on Brett, but its never confirmed. And Brett and Shayla would continue to date until Shayla goes out one day and gets into a accident while the sun is up. Shayla later goes to the hospital and dies. Brett mourns for her and the family bury her in a nice plot where the sun is always up. Brett soon recites the famous poem that Shayla's parents gave to him after her funeral. End of that one.

Bobby's Girl: Dana is a 17 year old girl who is dating Bobby Harrod, brother of legendary star Steve Harrod, who Dana secretly dated two summers ago. One day Steve comes home to visit, and Dana is torn between loving Bobby and falling in love with Steve again. So Dana pretends to not notice Steve and remain loyal to Bobby despite falling in love with his brother. Steve does the same thing, although he tries to win Dana over again and this time the two hit it off. Bobby pretty much acts clueless, but does love his brother while the parents act like total jerks to Bobby and pretty much treat Bobby like an outcast. Despite the fact that the parents love Steve and hate Bobby, Bobby still loves his brother and is not jealous of Steve. Dana notices the same thing and still acts loyal to Bobby.    Well one day Steve gets sick and ends up in  the hospital. The doctors soon diagnose him with brain tumor and he doesn't have much time to live. So Steve requests that he spends time with Dana alone, and Bobby accepts it, despite Steve and Dana being surpised by Bobby's actions. Dana and Steve spend lots of time together at the beach. Then one day Steve dies and Dana and Bobby soon cry over his funeral. Later on in the end, Bobby and Dana soon broke up after the end of high school and eventually go their seperate ways. Dana goes to Julliard while Bobby goes to Cal Tech. Dana later reads the famous love poem while also reading a note from Bobby saying he knows about Steve and Dana's relationship, but he still loves her. The End!

Laura's Heart:
It's  about a 16 year old girl named Laura who has a weak heart condition and wishes she lived a normal life for a change. While in the hospital awaiting for news of her heart diagnosis, Laura meets a younger guy by the name of Ramon, who is Latino and very cute. And he's in love with Laura. While the two hit it off right away, Ramon is caught by Laura's mom who decides to block Laura from seeing Ramon. Turns out Ramon lived a life as a street gangsta and has trouble with the law and stuff. He even spent some years in a juvenile home because of that. But Ramon is trying to live a better life and is working as an orderly at the hospital. Well Laura's parents still hate Ramon for living a bad life and restrains Laura from seeing Ramon. Well, one day Laura decides to go and see Ramon while riding with Betsy, Laura's friend from high school. Ramon decides to tell Laura all about his life, saying it's not easy living on the streets and that he's already lost a few best friends and a brother due to his life on the streets. He's really trying to live a better life outside the street and he wants to marry Laura someday when he gets an opportunity. Laura falls in love with him and soon accepts his proposal. But things start to change when Laura's father is offered a job in Mississippi and decides to move Laura and his family down there. Laura doesn't want to move, but has no choice. But things soon begin turning around when Laura is offered a new heart transplant by an unknown source. Laura now has a new heart inside of her. But Laura soon knows the sad truth: She Has Ramon's Heart Inside Of Her!  Turns out Ramon was gunned down while working at his second job at a grocery store in the streets. He died later at the hospital. Shortly before he died, he decided to become an organ donor and donate his heart to Laura, since she needed one so badly and because he loves her. Ramon's organs also saved 5 people on the night that he died. So he sorta became a hero. Laura is heartbroken and doesn't want to live knowing that Ramon's heart is lying inside of her.  But Laura soon recieves a letter from Ramon explaining that he knew his life would  end badly and that he's in a better place now, waiting for her. And that he wants Laura to continue on living for him and to know that he loves her and that he will always be with her now that she has his heart inside of her, Literally. So now Laura decides to continue on living and is now focused on living her life and remembering Ramon as always.

Thats the end of this book. Hope you like it.

1. Why is the parents such assholes in the book! I mean Brett's mom was an asshole, Bobby's parents were assholes. And Laura's parents were the biggest assholes to walk on the face of Earth. The parents were total assholes in the book.
2. I really felt sorry for Bobby in this book. Not only were Bobby's parents such assholes in this book, but his girlfriend Dana is in love with his brother while the brother is sick and dying . Yeah I really do feel sorry for the kid in this book.
3. Bobby's family reminds me of Helga's family in Hey Arnold. Especially when it comes to Olga.
4. Ha ha I loved the way Bobby had shocked Dana and Steve by telling them he already knows about their relationship. But you gotta give him props for not hating his brother and Dana for decieving him and making him think that he's a loser.
5. I would call Dana a slut here but I don't think its necessary. Cause she does care for Bobby and seeing how the kid is treated at home, I don't blame her.
6. I do feel sorry for Shayla, considering the fact that she's allergic to the sun and can't come out at the daytime. Not to mention being treated like a freak. But Shayla's parents are cool though, unlike Brent's mom.
7. I really hate Laura's family. Not only because they were total pricks but because they didn't want her daughter being happy and hated Ramon just because he lived a life in the streets.
8. You know, just because a person lived a life in the streets doesn't mean they're a bad influence Laura's parents. I mean all Ramon was trying to do was live a ordinary life and turn his life away from the streets.
9. I think Ramon and Laura would of made it as a couple. If it wasn't for Laura's parents at least.
10. I really like this book despite the parents being total dicks in the story . I think my favorite is "Bobby's Girl" despite how everyone treated Bobby.

Mother, Please Don't Die

this is a book that ive been reading for ages and one where it practically reminds me of how much the main character reminded me of Kristy Thomas from The Baby Sitters Club, as well as Helga G. Pataki from Hey Arnold. But hey that's just me. Anyway on to the cover:

On The Cover:

Hard to tell which one is the mother and which one is the daughter but all I can say is that the both of them look really gorgeous, even though you cant see their faces most of the time. But like I said, its probably just me.

Plot:  Megan McCaffey is a 13 year old Southern girl living her life in Charleston, South Carolina and trying to live her life independently while also remaining a child, especially since her older sister Audrey is getting married  and generally acts like such a bitch to Megan most of the time. May I add that Audrey is a Southern belle perfectionist also? So like Olga Pataki from Hey Arnold.

Anyways life is quite peaceful at the McCaffey's house until her mom suffers from having headaches all the time and has to go to a hospital to see what's wrong. Turns out the mom has a brain tumor growing inside her head, basically causing the "headaches". So they decided to give her radiation treatments and also doing surgery on her head to remove the tumor.

When the mom's tumor returns once more, especially after she goes blind, the family decides to put her up on hospice and spend as much time with her as they can. Meanwhile Audrey and Brent decided to get married in March instead of  June so that the mommy can still be alive and still see Audrey and Brent off too. After the wedding the mom goes back to hospice and goes into a coma and dies, leaving Audrey to cry for the first time and Megan and Thad, their brother to become miserable.

And if that's not enough for Megan Sue, her life with John Paul is changing before her eyes as she starts developing feelings for John Paul, who is Native American and good looking by the way. But things don't trun out quite so good, especially when develops a certain jealousy towards Becky too when it came to John Paul.  But things do work out later on when John Paul soon challenges her to a race and wins and then later confesses his feelings towards her, in which she returns with a kiss on the lips. They eventually go out in this book and later talk about their misadventures together while also moving on towards life now that the mom is dead and her sister is married and has a baby too. That's basically it.

1. Man is Audrey so annoying in this book. She's like Olga Pataki from Hey Arnold, only not so smart and overly talented, and she sucks at cooking. Plus the McCaffey's are not horrible like the Pataki family are. Their quite the opposite in fact.

2. Man is John Paul hot in this book for a 13 year old Native American. In fact I  find that very sexy. So putting him on my list of fictional crushes, right along with Brent Chandler from the Dawn Rochelle series.

3. Becky is also a Southern belle perfectionist snob too just like Audrey. And a 13 year old version of Karen Brewer. Only much more spoiled and Southern. ANNOYING TOO.

4. Im beginning to like this great grandmother of Megan's for some odd reason. I guess its because she sounds cool and anyone that burns a house down just cause she doesnt want any racist southerners living on her farm sounds really cool.

5. Seriously, WTF is up with the Southern Civil war names? Audrey, Megan Sue and Thaddeus? Thaddeus of all people? Is Lurlene a fan of the Civil War or something? Or maybe the Southern Confederate States? With the way she talked about the slaves and stuff it makes you want to guess or often wonder.

6. Pattern in Lurlene Mcdaniel's books( At least older ones): If your a protagonist of the older books and still alive, and younger too, you will fall in love with your best friend that's a guy and have feelings for him. But your other best friend who is a girl will have feelings for him too and will eventually end up dating him in the end while you deal with the pain by yourself.  It's in this book and it's also in books like The Girl Death Left Behind, Briana's Gift, and Please Don't Die

7. Another Lurlene McDaniel pattern: All of the earlier protagonists were 13 years old and survivors. They didn't have illnesses either. Just family members and loved ones. Ironic isnt it. I guess Lurlene was targeting it at preteens first before going into teenagers.

8. Megan reminds me so much of Kristy Thomas in the Baby Sitters Club. Only difference is that Megan isn't gross or immature like Kristy and actually acts like a realistic tomboy . She also acts cooler too. Maybe Kristy should learn a thing or too from Megan since theyre both the same age and very alike.

9. Kristy and Bart should also learn from Megan and John Paul. Same with Logan and Mary Anne when it comes to personal matters as well as dating.

10. I'm glad  Megan and John Paul are at least dating and stuff without losing their friendship in a way. Cause usually most of these characters in Lurlene's book doesnt have a lasting relationship since their all dying and stuff but it is nice to see Megan and John to be dating without somehow ruining their friendship too. Really makes it seem so special instead of sad.

I really like this book. In fact this is one of my favorites from back in the day before Lurlene went into the dying and dying franchise. I guess cause I was a lot like Megan growing up or this book really is inspiring. Oh well. On to the next book.

A Horse For Mandy

This is one of Lurlene's oldest books and one of the older books that are published by Dalby Creek Publishing. This book was made around 1981 , which would make it almost 30 years old and Lurlene to start writing at probably the age of 30 something since she's in her 60's (She was born in 1948 and her zodiac sign is an Aries).

ok on with the cover:
Ok why does Mandy looks like she is either 14 or 15. Mainly 15 and she's 13 years old. I also realize she looks like a shorter hair version of stacey just in a way. Here it shows her with a Paso Fino, a rare type of horse. And she seems really happy that she got the horse considering the fact that her father is a widower, and that she got the horse on her birthday.

Now this is the cover that I have. And Mandy looks a little like Sara Gilbert, but much cuter. And she also looks 15 instead of 13 also. Here it shows her thinking about how much her friendship with Laura has changed and probably wishes that things could stay the same again. And it also shows her horse Solana also. Who is a Paso Fino, a rare type of horse.

Mandy is 13 years old and is celebrating her birthday with her best friend Laura, who is like the Stacey McGill in this book. Her and Laura have been best friends since 3rd grade and basically share everything together. Laura is also rich and owns tons of horses, including a horse named Diablo, who she always rides with and enters into the horse derby with every year.

Well, one day, Mandy's father, who is a veterinarion, buys her a horse for her birthday since she is responsible and mature for her age. And Laura's jealous of it. Laura starts acting like a real bitch towards Mandy especially when a new boy named David shows up and helps Laura's family out during the summers while he's away with his uncle.

Laura and Mandy have a huge crush on David. But David begins to make moves towards Laura, which pisses Mandy off. But despite the fact that she's hurt over David's flirtation with Laura, she still acts like a cool friend and really focuses on her horse than to try to think of ways on how to score David and keep him from ever making a move on Laura.

Things become pretty intense, as Mandy's horse named Solana starts having problems in her leg and her father diagnoses it as being Flounder, which is a strange condition in horses. Sort of like Arthritis. Mandy becomes deeply hurt and tries to think of ways to help keep Solana alive, especially since her friend is being a little bitch to her. And this comes to a head when Mandy snaps at Laura for treating her like shit and practically acting all jealous over her horse, which causes Laura to cry and soon say some awful things and then leave.

Next thing you know, Laura's parents come by with the news that Laura has run away and she took her horse Diablo with her. Mandy immediately begans to cry and soon starts getting worried about what she can do to help find Laura. Her father suggests she stay at home while they take care of the search, stating that it gets very dangerous at night, and that he doesn't want to lose her also.

Mandy goes off and search anyways and soon finds Laura all cold and badly injured. Turns out her horse fell and throw her off, making her unconscious and left nearly freezing her ass off. Mandy soon apologizes for the way she acted towards Laura, and Laura confess in being jealous cause Mandy got a horse now, and that they'll no longer share and take turns on riding Diablo. Also turns out that David was really more interested in Mandy than he was in Laura because all David would talk about is Mandy. The girls later make up just in time to see Mandy's father rescuing the girls and taking them home. They later send out an ambulence to take Laura to the hospital and later on it shows Mandy and Laura making up and promise to never let things come between them again, and Mandy also entering Diablo for the horse derby in Laura's place and Mandy now going out with David. The End!

Thoughts on A Horse For Mandy:
1. This book was ok but it was kinda boring. It's like The Saddle Club only less fun and also mainly focused on Mandy and Laura's friendship.

2.Why for some odd reason does David remind me so much of Logan Bruno in a way? Well at least back when Logan was nice and not so much of an asshole like he would later become in the series.

3. This definitely should be used for a BSC plot, only with Jessi and Mallory since they love horses so much.

4. I'm sorry, but Laura was an ass in this book. If I were Mandy, I would of left her out in the cold. That way she can stop being such a bitch to Mandy, and also learn to start acting more nicer to people. That way people can like her sorry ass instead of hating her.

5. I noticed that Lurlene's older books were about 13 year olds. This one as well as the book Sometimes Love isnt Strong Enough, Why Did She Have To Die, My Secret Boyfriend, The Last Dance, Mother Please Don't Die, and Six Months To Live. Looks like Lurlene was trying to aim it at younger kids before switching it to adults. That's also a Lurlene Pattern if you think about it.

6. Another Lurlene pattern: You and your best friend will have a crush on the same guy, but the guy will pick your best friend over you. This book is one example. Another example is the book Briana's Gift. Same with The Girl Death Left Behind. Also Mother, Please Don't Die.

7. At least the horse didn't die in this book. Actually No one dies in this book which is very rare in Lurlene's world.

8. I definitely want a horse for a pet after reading this book. But horses are very expensive. Oh well. Later ^_^

Dawn Rochelle Book 5: To Live Again

Surprise! The last book of the Dawn Rochelle series. Thought that the last book No Time To Cry would be the last book in the series? Think again!  This is actually the last book in the series due to a large amount of fans requesting that Lurlene would write one more book based on Dawn's life. My guess is that a lot of Dawn/Jake fans wanted to hear more about Dawn and Jake hooking up.

And By the way, I'm well again after having 3 weeks of the common cold as well as sinus allergies, which runs in my family. So I'll continue to write more blogs based on the Lurlene Mcdaniel books as well as my other blog, The BabySitters Club Series. Im glad this book will be done with so that way I could focus on maybe doing the One Last Wish series. Anyways on to the book.

Cover Art:

For Once, Dawn looks like her actual age and looks exactly the way I picture her. It shows Dawn looking quite happy but also uncertain about graduating high school. It also shows a couple of people in the background wearing graduation gowns and standing in line. Not much to snark on this one. This is also the only cover art I could find on the web too. Like I said, not much to snark on this cover art.

Plot: Dawn Rochelle is in her senior year now. She's pretty much through with cancer after being in remission for 4 years since she was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 13. And because of the fact that she's had cancer, her social life was on the low side, and the only friends she's got is her brother Rob, who is now married to Katie, Dawn's nurse who Rob got engaged to in the previous book, and her friend Rhonda, who is pretty much the Claudia Kishi in the Dawn Rochelle series.

Dawn has also lost a great deal of friends due to cancer, mainly her  friend Sandy and her friend Marlee, who she befriended at summer camp when she was working as a camp counselor. Because of that, Dawn wants to put the past behind her especially now that she's a senior. She also wants to put her love for Jake behind her too, after catching Jake getting all fresh and kissy with Tasha, a new girl at Dawn's school.

So Dawn is busy trying to cram for exams and look after her nephew Keegan, Rob and Katie's son, when she starts getting headaches again. Turns out she's been having headaches since the start of her senior year and so far she's been trying to take naps to keep it from taking over her life the way cancer has done to her life. The headaches become much worse as the day goes by and while she goes to school and had lunch with Jake, she collasps in Jake's arms and ends up going to the hospital.

The Doctors diagnose her with some bad news :  She Has A Stroke. Getting a stroke is quite common with older teenagers, and since Dawn has had leukemia, it becomes very common. So Dawn has to take up physical therapy as well as speech therapy and preperation in order to keep up with her life. She also has to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks and join some kind of therapy group. May I add that Dawn also has to have a private tutor just to keep up with her grades, and this causes Dawn to cry and her parents as well as Rob and Katie supporting her and being by her side as usual.

Meanwhile things between her and Jake start to heat up as Jake becomes much more determined to go out with Dawn, even going as far as to get her a gift for Christmas, as well as also staying by her place for Thanksgiving  after she leaves the hospital completing her work and making her recovery.  But Dawn's problems is just now beginning as Tasha tries to make advantages toward Jake and even did a makeout scene with him on Tv while Jake and the cheerleaders(Tasha's on the cheerleading team in case your wondering) went to New York for winter break.

The feelings become more real when Dawn and Jake go to their prom together after Dawn completes her schoolwork and is allowed to come back to school due to Dawn recieving high grades on her report card as well as a recomendation from her old private school teacher, Mrs. Appletree. But things become quite complicated as Jake recieves news that Tasha's brother Brad, who is a high school graduate and college scholar, got into A car accident and is put on life support. So Dawn and Jake return to the hospital just in time for his parents to cut him off of life support, but luckily he's still breathing.

So now Brad has to live the rest of his life being in a vegetable state like coma, and the poor kid has to live the rest of his life in a nursing home too. Tasha's life is now filled with drama and tragedy, as she later quit cheerleading practice and refuses to take the cheerleading scholarship too. She also spends her time after school going to the hospital and basically living there.

Its from there on out that her and Dawn eventually get together and talk, and they eventually bond after Dawn sees that Tasha is not a bad girl after all, and that she could understand what it's like to be in Brad's situation. Tasha later gets over Jake and Dawn and Jake later go out and kiss(for the second time.) They leave the hospital after Dawn confronts Tasha about being such a drama queen and this eventually calms Tasha down and shuts her up.

So it pretty much shows Jake, Rhonda, and Dawn graduating in the end and Dawn giving a big speech about what she has to go through, and her and Jake now going out and becoming inseperable. THE END!

Thoughts On This Book:
1. This book was actually pretty good although they should of just ended the book the way it is in the last book No Time To Cry. Cause really, the only things that this book talks about is Dawn moving up to the 12th grade and Rob and Katie getting married. I definitely would prefer the other one. This book was pretty boring even though it is one of my favorites.

2. Sandy makes a cameo appearance as an angel, encouraging Dawn to move on and live her life to the fullest. She also encouraged Dawn to fight for Jake's love and not to let Tasha get in the way of her and Jake's relationship as well as friendship. It has been a long time since we last heard from Sandy other than the fact that she died in the first book of the Dawn Rochelle series.

3. I really would like to hear more about Greg and Mike. I mean they should at least make a cameo appearance too since this is supposed to be the last book of the series. It would be nice to see How Mike is doing since Sandy's death as well as what Greg is doing, even though he came out as strange to me.

4. I would also like to know how Brent is doing too since his breakdown over Sandy's death at Dawn's house in the last book. I mean I really would love to hear more about Brent since he seemed so totally cool in the 3rd book and since I have a huge crush on Brent.

5. Tasha wasn't really all that bad compared to the way that Sharon and Darcy the Snob acted in the previous books. Yeah she was annoying, but at least she wasn't as horrible as her previous look alikes.

6. Ever noticed that Sharon, Darcy and Tasha share a couple of things in common. One is the fact that their blondes(I guess Lurlene has a deep hatred for blondes since she makes most of her blonde characters act like total bitches *cough Lacey Duvall cough*). Another is that they are cheerleaders  (well, former cheerleaders in Darcy's case since Darcy was in the same college that Rob was.) and both of them( Sharon and Tasha) had older brothers that Jake was good buddies with and both hated Dawn(not Tasha, just Darcy and Sharon.)

7. So Brad was only 24, and was just visiting his family over the weekend when the car accident happened. And it was because Trisha was wearing his helmet and didn't give it back to him. Wth? A helmet to wear to go driving? I am not going to comment on that one.

8. Jake certainly knows how to get around with the ladies. I mean he was shown making out/getting fresh with Tasha in the downstairs hallways and claims to go over to Brad's house often to hang out with Tasha there. Same thing with Sharon's brother with Sharon also being there. I have a feeling Jake lost his virginity to those girls and maybe that explains why Sharon and Tasha acted kind of slutty/flirty as well as bitchy too.

9. Tasha and Sharon reminds me so much of Mandy from Totally Spies(I Love That Show) as well as Sissi from Code Lyoko( Another Show That I Loved).

10. Jake mentions this is the first time he's ever kissed Dawn as well as wanting to kiss her since the 9th grade. But didn't he kissed her in the last book as they were leaving that time capsule ceremony? Also didn't he moved back to Ohio during the 10th grade when they both turned 15? total lack of continuity Lurlene. Total lack indeed.

11. You know, you could of just have Brad died instead of ending up comatosed and vegatized for the rest of his life. And also spending the rest of his life in a nursing home. That way I wouldn't of ending up feeling sorry for the kid and maybe Tasha wouldn't act so dramatic and annoying in this book.

12. I have a feeling that Lurlene hates Dawn as much as Ann M. Martin hating Mallory. Ironic isn't it. Especially since they're both redheads too. Only Dawn is at least popular and cuter. Older too and not so whiny and annoying as Mallory.

13. Reason why I say Lurlene hates Dawn is because most of her books in the inside cover doesn't list the Dawn Rochelle series that much. Plus Dawn has to go from battling leukemia to having a fever and an infection in the first book, get a bone marrow transplant and then having some kind of reaction to it which almost kills her, getting a rash and going to the hospital again in the 4th book, and now getting a stroke and migraine/headache in this last book and nearly collasps in Jake's arms. Yeah definite proof of Lurlene hating Dawn. Probably cause she's one of the few protags that actually survives too.

14. Some patterns in Lurlene Mcdaniel books: Collasping in your boyfriends arms. Or lover's arms too. April lancaster collasped in her boyfriend Chris's arms in the Till Death Do Us Part book. She did the same thing again, only in her new lover Brandon's arms in For Better, For Worse, Forever. Dawn does this in Jake's arms in this book. There's probably some more but those I could remember so far. By the way, April Lancaster is also a redhead.

15. Another pattern: Most of the surving (or somewhat surviving ones) in Lurlene's books are redheads. Katie O' Roarke , one of the protagonists in the One Last Wish books is a redhead. April Lancaster who survives Till Death Do Us Part but also dies in For Better, For Worse, Forever, was also a redhead. And Dawn Rochelle, the title character of this series, is a redhead. There's probably more but all i can say is that Lurlene has a fondness for redheads. And you can see clearly in the books too.

Dawn Rochelle Book 4: No Time To Cry

Sorry I havent post much, as I am battling a major cold right now and it takes up most of my energy and time. It might take me a while to post up new posts, so pray for me as I try to do my best (or keep me in your thoughts if your not the religious type.)

Wtf is up with Dawn looking older. Come on, Dawn looks like she's in her 20's instead of being 15 like in her previous book. Also that dress she's wearing looks old and looks as if its made for older women like 40 year old women or women who are pregnant and etc. Point is, Dawn looks much older and not exactly the way I imagined her to look. And Jake looks suspicious to me in this cover. That smile makes him look creepy. Plus he looks a little like Shane West to me.

Now this is much better. I mean Dawn at least looks alright just a little more older like say 17?. Also, Jake if drop dead gorgeous on this cover. Damn. Im talking about Smoking hot. He also looks like a younger version of Grayson from one of my favorite shows, Drop Dead Diva. Basically Jake and Dawn look alright in this cover and much better than the last one.

Ok why does Jake look like such a jock in this cover and kind of rednecky. I know Jake is listed as a jock and all but Gheesh. Could he at least look decent or something. Dawn looks alright of course but this makes her look 16 instead of 15 though. Like her outfit though.

This is from the 4 novels cover and has the picture of Dawn from the first book as well as Jake from the 4th one. Jake definitely looks like a redneck here even in the background and Dawn looks alright.

Dawn is getting ready to go to High school now that her cancer is in remission, her bone marrow is working ok, and now that her friendship with Marlee is gone (Remember Marlee from the previous book? She died in the previous one.). Dawn is looking forward to her new life when all of a sudden, someone calls out her name and it turns out to be Jake Macha, a former crush of Dawn's and Dawn's good friend. Turns out Jake has moved back to Ohio after the dad got transferred back  and now Dawn is feeling sentimental again because Jake has returned.

As if things arent bad enough, Dawn is also invited to speak at a groundbreaking ceremony in her honor to celebrate the friendship she had with Sandy and Marlee. Also the hospital commitee is going to open a cancer treatment ceremony in Marlee's honor after her grandmother passes away in the middle of this book and wants Dawn to speak at the ceremony as well as lead the time capsule ceremony too. Dawn is basically all stressed out with the pressure that everyone is putting on Dawn, but Dawn manages to mellow it out somehow.

Katie also becomes very close with Dawn and wants Dawn to join a support group for people with cancer as well as become one of the honorees in this Tree of Life program that's dedicated to cancer survivors like her. But it makes Dawn  feel sad because her friends are dead and she's not. It makes her think all about Sandy and Marlee again, especially when Brent (the boy from the previous book) comes to visit Dawn during winter break.

Dawn notices she has feelings for Brent, but isnt sure what to do about it, especially since Jake came back to her life. But she soons stops worrying about that when she sees Brent crying in the basement during Christmas Eve. It turns out that during Christmas time, the family would always get together and talk about the things they want to do in the future, and Sandy dreamed about being rich and having a family and have everyone move in with them once she gets her a land and stuff. But after Sandy died, things haven't been the same and when Brent and Mr. Chandler(Sandy's father) go to Sandy's grave, Mr. Chandler cries and its the first time that Brent has ever seen the daddy cry. Brent is also recovering from Sandy's death and wishes he had a chance to to speak to Sandy one last time and spend time with her again. Dawn takes the time to comfort Brent and eventually gives Brent most of Sandy's belongings, saying that one day when Brent ever settles down and have kids, he might want to show them Sandy's things and tell them about their special aunt. Brent and Dawn hug and have a special time together.

After Brent leaves, Dawn goes upstairs and notices a rash on her skin and thinks her cancer has returned. So they take her to the hospital to get examined again and  Dawn runs into Jake Macha again and soon has a talk with him. Turns out that Jake wants to get into her private life and wishes that she open up with him. But Dawn isn't going there and they basically argue, with Jake leaving and Dawn neaqrly crying her eyes out. She then gets a visit from Dr. Ben from camp and they soon talk about life and what happened with Dawn's friends and how despite the fact that their gone, Dawn helped them through it all. Basically Dr. Ben is encouraging Dawn to move on and think about her life in a new way. Dawn is now feeling happy right around the same time Dr. Sinclair gives her news that her cancer is alright and that there is nothing wrong with her. So Dawn heads home and gets ready for her ceremony.

After Dawn gives her opening speech and talk about the changes in her life, Dawn goes to the time capsule thing and buries her old diary as well as Mr. Ruggers her old teddy bear into the time capsule and soon leaves off. She later meets Sandy's parents and Sandy's mother gives her a new picture of the two of them together, Sandy and Dawn, while going to cancer camp. Dawn also meets Brent and exchange farewell gifts. Dawn later leaves off with  Jake and the two kiss and talk about the new support group that Dawn is joining as well as the Tree of Life program that Dawn is signing off for.

P.s. in case your interested, Dawn's brother Rob graduates from College and gets engaged to Katie,Dawn's nurse in this book. The two has been into each other since book 2 and now the two are engaged.

1. Whoever said that Dawn is like Dawn Schafer should really get themselves checked. Cause Dawn reminds me an awful lot like Ginger Foutley. Also, she is kinda like Mallory with some Mary Anne and Claudia. Same with Stacey too.

2. This is the book where it basically recaps all the previous books from 1-3 of the Dawn Rochelle series.

3. This was supposed to  be the  last Dawn Rochelle book but a lot of fans wanted to hear more about Dawn Rochelle and so is the reason for the last Dawn book, To live Again.

4. Im really sad that Dawn and Brent ended their relationship like that. I really liked Brent and I thought Brent was a much better candidate for Dawn than Jake is. At least Brent is honest. Plus he respects Dawn's privacy. They even share a lot in common particularly when it comes to Sandy.

5. Jake reminds me so much of Logan Bruno especially when it comes to Dawn's illness.

6. I think the reason why Mr. Chandler cried was because he was feeling guilty for sending Sandy away to a Mexican clinic/resort  instead of sending her to Dr. Sinclair. Karma is a bitch isn't it Mr. Chandler.

7. I do feel sorry for the Chandler family though, especially Brent.

8. I wonder whatever happened to Mike and Greg. WE havent seen much of them since book 2. I would love to see Mike and Greg again. Especially Mike.

9. I actually like this book despite the fact that everyone was so persistent on Dawn's illness and life. And Katie was being really annoying in this book. Same with Jake.

10. Sharon is such a bitch in this book. She's like Tasha from book 5 and Darcy from book 1 all rolled into one.

11. Darcy the snobby bitch from book 2 is in this book at the scene where Rob graduates and Dawn and Katie go up there to see him. She's changed her hair too to a shorter blonde cut.

12. Gotta love the recaps of previous book in this one, especially when it came to Marlee and Sandy.

13. The grandma spent all of her wealth in trying to build a cancer treatment center. So I wonder how did she affored to go to the hospital if she wasted all of her money on a cancer project?

good book by the way and one of my favorites from the Dawn Rochelle Series

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

This book was actually very good. Not only could I relate to Carrie in so many ways, but God her parents were fucking awful. The only ones I liked was Keith's family, Carrie's brother, and Lynda. But Carrie's parents can go to hell for all I care.

Man Does Keith look good on the cover. I wonder who portrayed Keith in this photo cover? He looks quite familiar. Carrie looked alright too. And  that heart necklace looks cute with that big red sweatshirt. It shows Keith playing the guitar while also sadly gazing at Carrie, who is shown admiring outside the window and is probably wishing she could have a life like Keith's and a family too.

Plot: Carrie Blake is 15 and struggling with leukemia. She's had leukemia since she was 12 years old and so far she's doing good in her treatments. But her homelife is basically shitty as her mom is always busy trying to settle down and work and also finding a good man for her and Carrie, and her father pretty much acts distant towards Carrie a lot. Her parents are divorced and her brother is living with the dad and his new wife, Lynda , who always supports Carrie, and is pretty much acting like the mother she's never had. Because of that, Carrie has to battle her illness alone and pretty much trusts no one.

One day at the cancer support group, she meets a boy named Keith who has a very bad form of cancer, and is one of the most popular guys at Carrie's school. Carrie has a crush on Keith, but tries denying it. But they end up getting together to work on the upcoming festivals for the cancer group that Carrie has joined. Meanwhile, Her mother constantly ignores Carrie and tries to be a good mother while also having a social life, which Pisses off Carrie's dad because he thinks mothers shouldnt work and etc. Carrie ignores the both of them and tries to live her harsh life as peacefully as she can.

Well, Keith and Carrie start getting closer to each other and eventually Carrie meets his family, who are very warm and friendly and seems to approve of Carrie. They also show up at the picnic and Carrie and the gang have a good time until Keith collasps at the picnic. They rush him to the hospital where it turns out Keith's cancer is back, but this time its lodged in his liver. Keith is basically going to die and Carrie is devastated by the news. The only one who seems to understand this is once again Lynda, but Carrie is too pissed off at her dad to even notice or care. She even yells at Lynda for being the cause of her parents breakup, but Lynda calmly lets her know the full details of her life, even going as far to say that she's lucky her parents still give a shit about her and her brother, and that at least they bother to still see each other despite the fact that her parents basically want to tear each other apart.

Turns out Lynda's life is just as shitty as Carrie's, only much worse. Parents hate each other so much that Lynda's mom put a restraining order on the dad (I have a feeling Lynda's dad was an abuser.). It ruined Lynda's life so badly that the girl even put off dating for a while as well as marriage, until she met Carrie's father. This causes Carrie to pity the woman and stop being such a bitch to Lynda( yeah no kidding sherlock.)

So now things are cool with Carrie and Lynda, but things arent going great for Keith. Keith is taking a turn for the worse and Keith's family decided to let Keith handle his illness because they don't want to keep him hurting and etc. Keith decides to go into the hospice program where they help those who are dying and honor their wishes and etc. Keith also wants to go to the family hideout in the mountains and view the scenery one last time. And Keith wants Carrie to come, which isnt a problem because Carrie's mom doesn't give a shit about Carrie, and Carrie's dad is a controlling asshole.

Carrie's dad eventually turns around at some point, thanks to Lynda for letting him know that Carrie is no longer a little girl, and after showing some grief over His pals' death in Vietnam at the 4 of July picnic. Turns out that Pops went into the Army right after graduation from high school along with 4 of his buddies. But he was the only one to come out of the war alive. He even had to watch his best friend get his legs amputated and die from it. Yeah I guess this is the reason why the daddy never liked hospitals or Carrie's illness. But This does cause Carrie and the dad to eventually bond and be understanding and supportive of each other's decisions.

Of course, Mom's story was worse. Turns out Pops wanted her to settle down and have kids and be a housewife, and she chose motherhood over landing a job( In like what? Modeling?) to have kids, just so that she can please the daddy. Yeah Right. O, and the reason why she hates hospitals and Carrie's illness is because Her mom and her favorite Aunt died from cancer, and it somehow devastates her in a way. She thought she would be at risk, but instead it skips over to Carrie and i guess she's lucky. Did I add that the mommy want the life of the luxury and rich people and likes to dress up and travel? And she's into a guy named Larry who's a total bore to Carrie, and seems to say just anything to make Carrie's mom melt with pleasure.

Anyways, Carrie goes to Keith's place in the cabins and Starts getting close with all of Keith's family, including Keith's sister named Tina, who is new at Carrie's high school and likes Carrie. She even wants Carrie to look out for her when she Starts her freshman year at high school. Carrie promises and the girls get closer to each other. Carrie also starts taking music lessons from Keith and learns to play the guitar for the first time.

After Carrie comes home from her trip to the mountains, she finds a For Sale sign at her house and demands to know why their house is being sold. Mom explains that with the money she's making now and with Carrie being out of school now, she can afford to move elsewhere. Plus she's tired of living in a shitty ass town and blah blah blah. So Carrie becomes pissed and eventually hangs out at Keith's place more and decides to spend time with him until he dies. After getting to know Keith and seeing how fucked up her home life is being, Carrie goes to Keith's just in time to say goodbye to Keith before he dies in his own house. Carrie cries and soon leaves to go back to her home.

After the funeral and after Carrie throws a farewell party in Keith's honor, Carrie gets ready to pack and move to her father's place. Turns out Carrie relaized her mom is a horrible excuse of a mother and she never wanted to have kids, and never even said I love you to Carrie or her brother. Plus Carrie is finally getting close to her daddy and the dad is becoming less of a asshole, Lynda is supportive as usual, and her brother misses her like crazy. And she still wants to go to her old school named Martin. The mom becomes quite pissed and angry at this, but she eventually gets over it and moves on with her life. Carrie later leaves with Keith's guitar in hand, given to her by Tina after the funeral, and ready to move on with her new life now that everything is settled.

1. Man is Carrie's family so horrible. I mean really, you think you can at least take time to see your daughter even visit her while she's dealing with her illness, but no. Theyre too busy trying to tear each other apart to even care. The only ones i liked were Lynda and her brother. At least they seemed to care and understand about Carrie's illness.

2. This book reminds me of the One Last Wish Book called Mother Help Me Live, where Sarah experiences some of the same problems that Carrie seems to have. Only Sarah was adopted. Plus her adopted parents seemed cool. Especially the adoptive mom.

3. You gotta love Keith's family, especially the parents. They seem like the type of parents you would love to have. They dont try to hide the truth from you like most parents do, and they are very supportive and understanding. they even let you make decisions and etc. They remind me so much about the Qumby family in the Ramona Quimby series by Beverly Clearly.

4. Ok so Carrie's dad wasnt that bad, but he could of at least bothered to see Carrie and stop blaming everything on her Mom. I mean sure Carrie's mom was a douche but at least she's not the only one to blame. You are one not to judge Mr. Blake.

5. Ok Ms. Blake. I understand you want to live a luxurious life. But couldnt you at least spend time with your daughter and stop fucking every guy you see at your job. Also if you didnt want to get married and settle down, why the hell did you do it in the first place? you could of at least be honest here.

6. Seriously, what kind of a mother would leave their kid outside alone in the park without even making a phone call? And I don't buy the fact that there was no pay phones at the park. It sounds so ridiculous.

7. If Keith hadn't of died in this book, Him and Carrie would of acutally gone out with each other and even make out in the book. But of course this is Lurlene's world, and almost all of her characters die.

8. Lurlene pattern: Working class mom turning into bitches, Stay at home moms are as sweet as gold in this book.

9. Keith's dream was to play in the World Series in baseball and Go on Johnny Carson's show live to play his guitar. Carrie also wants to go on Johnny Carson live, but wants to go into comedy and be a comedian.

10. Keith was 16 when he died and a junior at high school.

11. Carrie really was smart in this book and one of my favorite characters. I was a lot like carrie myself.

12. Carrie reminds me so much of Helga Pataki from Hey Arnold, but without the obscession of Arnold aqnd crazyness.

This is actually one of my favorite books and despite the fact that Carrie's parents were Awful and ridiculous, i gotta admit, it was very well written and somewhat realistic.

oh well. on to the next book.

Dawn Rochelle book 3: So Much to Live For

I just had to do a recap on this book. This book was great on so many levels and I loved the romance between Dawn and Brent in this book. They are a much better pair than Jake and Dawn, or Greg and Dawn too.

Ok. So the book begins with Dawn getting ready to head back to cancer camp again, only this time she's a CIT( camp instructor in training) instead of just a regular old veteran camper. Her friends Mike and Greg had moved on and went into college with scholarship degrees, and Sandy's been dead for almost 3 years. Dawn had given up the dream of working at Rhonda's uncle's ice cream to rather instead work at cancer camp.

Dawn later meets a girl named Marlee who is bitter, sad, and lonely and lives with a rich grandma who spoils Marlee like crazy. Marlee also becomes a terror to camp counselors as well as fellow campers, and Dawn thinks the reason why Marlee is horrible is because of her reaction and bitterness about her cancer.

Dawn also meets a camp counselor by the name of Brent Chandler, who is related to Sandy Chandler(he's her brother),and starts developing a crush on Brent. She soon begins having doubts about Brent because she's still in love with Jake. Plus Brent is still recovering over the loss of Sandy's death.

Dawn and Marlee eventually become good friends and Marlee even starts to open up about her problems to Dawn. Then Dawn and Brent go to the 50's dance as Elvis and Priscilla and they share a kiss by the lake on their way back to their cabins. Marlee also went to the dance, but was too shy to ask Brent out. For Marlee has a huge crush on Brent also, but doesnt do anything about it though.

After Dawn and Brent went their seperate ways, Dawn recieves a phone call from Marlee asking if Dawn could see her at the hospital. For Marlee's cancer has recently returned and the doctors aren't sure about sending her home yet. Dawn visits Marlee and soon meets Agatha Hodges, Marlee's grandmother for the first time.

The doctors later tell Dawn and Marlee's grandmother the bad news: Marlee's cancer is inoperable, and Marlee won't be going home. Marlee is dying and Marlee's grandmother doesnt want Dawn to tell Marlee the bad news, for she doesn't want Marlee to be upset.

Dawn doesn't but Marlee eventually learns the truth and Marlee wants Dawn to not tell her grandmother thaT she's dying, for it will upset grandma and cause her to have a heart attack( the grandma has a bad heart condition.). Dawn keeps this a secret and gives her teddy bear, Mr. Ruggers, away so that Marlee will feel comfortable. Marlee later dies in a coma and Dawn grieves once more, not only for Marlee, but for Sandy as well, who died of the same age 13 also.

Dawn later goes to Marlee's funeral and meets Marlee's grandmother again as well as her attorney. The grandmother gives Dawn her old teddy bear back as well as a message from Marlee, telling her to go back to camp again and continue to look after Brent and her grandmother for her. Dawn cries but eventually decides to head back to camp once more and complete their wishes.

Thoughts on So Much To Live For:
1. I kinda feel sorry for poor Marlee in this case. I mean the girl wants to go home after being diagnosed with her cancer again, but the grandmother doesnt let her. She hardly had any friends in school and was deeply hated at camp. And not everyone was sympathetic to Marlee. Can't help but feel sorry for the poor girl. Especially since the girl came from a rich and wealthy background.

2.Marlee thinks putting weeds in a water bottle is dumb. But I remember doing the same thing in kinbdergarden and getting an A+ for that.

3. For a rich kid, Marlee is not snobbish at all. In fact, she's very down to earth. Kinda like Kristy Thomas of the Babysitter's Club.

4. Marlee doesnt wear makeup due to a horrible accident with her eye.( she has a fake eye.) I remember doing the same thing in 1st grade and boy did that shit hurt.

5. Like Sandy, Marlee was only 13 and in the 7th grade when she died. Ironic don't you think. Another Irony is that they both died toward the end of the summer too. Only Sandy died in a Mexican clinic/resort instead. Plus Sandy was happy and ready to die. I thought I would point that out.

6. Damn! with the way Brent was described Im more than interested in wanting to meet him and date him. He sounds really nice and perfect. Plus he really likes Dawn and isn't shy about asking her out like Jake does. Plus he cared about Sandy too.

7. I think Brent is a way better kisser than Greg  and Jake.

8. I think Brent and Dawn would of made a greater couple than Greg/Dawn and Jake/Dawn. Brent isnt shy about making moves on Dawn. Plus Brent is a lot nicer to Dawn and really cares about her and her feelings. And they both loved Sandy. They have a lot more in common than Greg and Jake.

9. Signs of Marlee being rich: Marlee has an indoor swimming pool at home., Plus Grandma buys her a lot of expensive toys. Marlee brought designer sheets to camp. Marlee has a limo. Grandma wears a suit all the time. Marlee has expensive makeup kits. Marlee even has her own private room and her own florist too.

10. Although i love hearing about camp stories and all, If i were Dawn i would of ditched camp to work at a ice cream shop. Think of all the ice cream you can eat. and cute boys work at the ice cream shop. But then we would of never got a chance to meet marlee or brent so yeah.

Telling Christina Goodbye

man is this book good. Not only did this book had me in tears, but omg was this book so realistically written. The only thing that I want to add was that Tucker was such an abusive jerk, and Tina's parents were weird. Ok here goes.

Nothing to snark on this cover. For Christina looks really good in the photo even though its kinda small. Plus it shows flowers by the photo right where the accident happened. so yeah nothing to snark on here. Plus this book came out in 2002 so there's really nothing to snark on. I guess Lurlene or the editors got tired of making millions of covers on here.

Ok so the book begins with Trisha coming back from homeroom to go to the bathrooms to find her best friend Christina crying in the bathroom stalls. It turns out that her and Tucker, her boyfriend since the 8th grade, got into an argument over Christina seeing a classmate of theirs, Billy Ecklorn, at a coffee shop. The two were only getting together to study for Finals for their senior year and someone spotted him getting together. Now Christina is upset and hurt and Trisha is pissed off at Tucker for treating her friend like crap.

Trisha later meets her boyfriend named Cody, who she's been seeing since the 10th grade, and tells him what's going on with Christina and Tucker and wishes Christina would dump him so that she can move on and settle with her life now that she's got a 10,000 scholarship to the University of Vermont, and her father's recommendation to go there. Cody tells Trisha not to be so hard on Tucker because Tucker really cares about Christina and is afraid of losing her. But Trisha isn't convinced.

Trisha later runs into Tucker while seeing her brother Charlie play in the school playoffs. Tucker asks Trisha if she could convice Christina not to go off to Vermont with the scholarship that she's got. Trisha refuses and says its a lifetime opportunity for Christina, one that she knows will never be abvle to get. Tucker is pissed off by the news, but eventually keeps his cool and joins Trisha in watching the games together.

Later Cody and Trisha are at her house, relaxing and cozying over a cup of hot cocoa and while theyre relaxing, Cody spills the news to Trisha that Tucker wants to marry Christina towards the end of June, the day after graduation. Trisha is shocked and upset, because she knows that Christina will end up throwing away the scholarship just to be with Tucker. Plus she also knows that Christina deeply loves Tucker and always do what he says. Cody begs Trisha not to tell Christina about the news. Trisha reluctantly agrees and keeps it a secret from Christina.

Trisha, Cody, Christina, and Tucker later go on a double date and tries to enjoy a game when Christina once again runs into Billy and has a normal conversation with him. Tucker later sees them and gets into a fist fight with Billy. Cody stops them and tries to take Tucker outside with him. But two security guards come by and threw Cody and Trisha outside in the cold and bans them from coming to the games. Trisha is super pissed and yells at Tucker for getting Cody into trouble and for not being there for him when he was getting yelled at. Tucker apologizes and tries to make up with Christina. But this time Christina has had it and tells Tucker off about treating her like crap and for being such a jealous asshole. Tucker is upset and shocked of this news and leaves her to work on his car. Trisha points out that Tucker will never change and that she shouldn't live her life treated like crap from a guy like Tucker. Christina says nothing on this and the gang later leave to head back home.

Un fortunately a couple of guys from the high school saw Tucker and the gang and tries to bump them off the road. Tucker dodges it and pissed off over the boys, tries to chase them down and crashes. Christina tries to stop the car but it was too late. The car is now totalled and Christina, Trisha, and Cody flew out of the car and is hurt very badly. A few officers come by and help Trisha out. Turns out that Trisha is still alive. But she suffered from a couple of broken ribs and bruises. She is injured and has to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. Tucker is barely hurt and only suffered a few scratches. But Cody has to go to another hospital miles away and is now in a coma. But here is tragic news: Christina died at the scene. Now Trisha is deeply saddened by her death. Tucker is devasted. Their lives are changed forever. And Christina's dead. And Cody is fighting for her life.

The news of Christina's death shocks the community and now everyone is bringing flowers and goes to her funeral. Trisha at first didn't want to go to the funeral because she's still in shock over Christina's death, but she eventually gets over it and soon meets Tucker, who shows up in a blue suit with a bandage over his head. Tucker soon gets into a argument with Christina's dad, who is super pissed at Tucker for causing Christina to die. Luckily Tucker's family shows up and backs Tucker from getting into a fistfight with Christina's dad. Trisha's dad does the same thing and holds Christina's father from killing Tucker. Tucker soon leaves and Trisha goes up to Christina's casket to say goodbye.

Trisha later goes to school to move on in her life, and everyone at school goes to Trisha to offer their condolences for Christina. Tucker stays by her side and guides her the rest of the year. Trisha later returns home to hear the news that Cody is now talking again and he's out of a coma. Trisha becomes excited and goes to the hospital to see Cody.Unfortunately, Cody suffers from amnesia, which is quite common in coma patients, and doesnt remember Trisha. Trisha is heartbroken by the news, but eventually decides to help Cody remember her and gain his memory on things. Tucker also helps Cody out and gives Trisha advice on how to gain Cody back as a boyfriend again, even though they havent broke up.

Meanwhile the school also builds a memorial in Christina's honor and tries to have Trisha give a speech based on Christina's life. But Thrisha refuses and breaks down in tears. Abby runs over to Trisha's side to comfort her, but Trisha snaps at Abby and tells her she doesn't know what it's like. Abby confronts her gently and tells her she knows what its like to lose a loved one. Her brother Carson died years ago due to a car accident in which he fell asleep while driving and crashed into a tree. Trisha soon apologizes and finds herself a new friend in Abby.

Meanwhile Cody gains his memory back and slowly tries to work his way around school and life. He returns to school and everyone gives Cody a warm welcome, including Tucker, who helps him out around the school area. Trisha later gains her memory back and soon learns what happened during the accident. Trisha becomes pissed and confronts Tucker about it, to which Tucker admits and apologizes to Cody and Trisha for what he's done to all of them. Tucker later tells everyone what really happened and later moves to live with relatives in another state. This relieves Trisha and helps her focus on other things.

Cody later tells Trisha that he wont be graduating with Trisha and the gang due to his lack of progress and lots of absence from school. This saddens Trisha but eventually keeps her from dumping Cody and instead supports him. Trisha later goes to the prom with Abby and Cody and has a good time. She also eventually graduates and recieves a phone call from Christina's mother to let her know that theyre moving, and they want Trisha to take Christina's things as a farewell present. Trisha does and the two give each other a tearful hug goodbye and the Eckloe's leave for Florida.

Trisha also decides to work at a hospital and deal with Christina's old patient named Mr. Tappin, who is old and very sick. The two become good pals and form a bond together. Then Mr. Tappin dies and the hospital releases her after only a couple of months, because they know she only did this for Christina's sake. Trisha then leaves only to find Cody hanging by her house and the two rekindle their relationship. Now Trisha is happy to move on and now the two can spend the rest of their lives together in peace. And they'll never forget Chriswtina . The end.

1. It's sad to die in a car crash and quite tragic the way Christina died.
2. I think its obvious that Christina's on the wealthy side. Especially if she's buried in a fancy outfit and in a pretty casket with a much fancier tomb.
3. DAMN! to recieve 10,000! Do you know what I would do if I ever recieved 10,000 dollars? I know I wont have to worry about paying back college loans or paying for books and stuff. And I could have enough to go on a vacation of get a cruise or a manicure too. Damn Christina was lucky.
4. Even though the book was good and the title fit it well, It should of been called " My Boyfriend Was a Jerk and I was Killed Because of that." Or My Boyfriend was Abusive and I was killed because of that.
5. Christina's parents kind of sucked in this book. I mean if your daughter is being abused and controlled by a guy that you know you don't like, don't you think you should break them up and stop him from seeing your daughter. I was in a relationship like that in my high school years and my parents stopped me from seeing him. They even put a restraining order on him and called the courts on his ass. Otherwise if i was to still see him, I wouldn't be alive to post this blog right now.
6. I loved Christina's dad during the funeral scene. I think he did what we all wanted to do to Tucker all this time.
7. Christina really was kinda stupid in this book. I mean she had the opportunity to leave Tucker for another guy, yet she stayed with Tucker anyways because she "loves" him. Whatever.
8. I felt sorry for Cody and Trisha in this book. They were just now trying to go off to college together and start their lives off but stupid Tucker ruined the whole thing by acting like a dumbass
9. I come to realize that I don't like Tucker and I don't think im the only one.
10. I'm with Thrisha 100%. If you had just recieved 10,000 on scholarship and was offered to go to the college of your choice, wouldn't you want to go yourself and dump the dead weight that rivals Logan Bruno and Kristy Thomas, to go. Especially if that person tries to stop you from going?
11. Not only was Tucker abusive but he was also stupid. Hello Tucker, if your girlfriend loves your sorry ass and wants to go to Vermont, not to mention recieved 10,000 I would of stopped bitching about how she needs to live her life and start thinking like hey, i just realized that I could move with Christina and go to Vermont together, especially since she got 10,00 grand. But the dumb fool was too busy preaching about how dumb she looks instead of seeing the obvious.
12. Thank you Trisha. Im glad someone points out that a guy like Tucker isn't good enough for you Christina. Especiually if he keeps trying to pressure you into staying in Indiana with him, makes fun of the way you help out to others, and even forces you to drop cheerleading. He's not good for you.
13. Even though Trisha was my favorite character in the book, after the accident she got kinda stupid to Abby. Hello Trisha, At least someone understands what your going through. Especially if she lost a brother like that during her freshman years. So Stuff it.
14. That abby/ Trisha frienship reminds me of the Claudia/erica friendship in the friends forever series. only Stacy wasnt dead. plus that happened because stacy and claudia was fighting, and claudia wanted a new friend to worship/hang out with.
15. I think Tucker did more than emotionally abused her. He probably physically abused her too. Especially if she was shown crying in the bathroom earlier on in the book.
16. I'm surprised Tucker didn't kill himself in the end of the book. I wished he did simply because he doesn't deserve to live for the way he treated Christina, Trisha, and Cody. But he moves away instead. Still I'm glad. I cant stand Tucker.
17. If I were Christina's parents I would of sued Tucker anyways. But they didnt because it won't bring Christina back. Kinda makes sense but still yeah.
18. Im glad Cody and Trisha stayed together in the end. They were my favorite couple in the book. Plus it shows that real love stays strong. Good point in this book.
I really enjoyed this book, even though Tucker was such an abusive asshole, and Trisha and Cody's lives are ruined forever.  But Trisha is my favorite character nonetheless. Same with Cody too.
